Game of Thrones Lore - Faceless Men

Though their members ranged far and wide across both Essos and Westeros, the Faceless Men were an organisation based in the Free City of Bravos. They were rumoured to be a guild of assassins who commanded incredibly high fees. However, they had a reputation for success that was unparalleled by any other similar organisation…

The Faceless Men were a cult of mystic assassins who worshiped the Many-Faced God, a god of death who was unknowingly worshiped by all religions in the world, in the form of one god or another. The Weirwood Face of the Old Gods of the Forest and the Stranger of the Faith of the Seven were two such deities. Faceless Men believed that death was a merciful end to suffering, so the guild granted the “gift” of death to anyone in the world, considering the assassination a sacrament to their god. In the House of Black and White, the Faceless Men’s headquarters, those who sought to end their suffering were allowed to drink from a black cup, granting them a painless death. Killing for personal gain or out of anger or hate was forbidden by the Faceless Men, which is why the guild lost trust with a young acolyte, Arya Stark, when she disregarded the clear rules. Furthermore, Arya was always doubted to succeed since she seemed to hold onto her former identity, instead of becoming “no one”. Faceless Men detached themselves from their former identity all in the service of their god, only assassinating targets that they were hired to kill, and they did not choose by themselves who was worthy of the “gift”. The Faceless Men got their name from their ability to physically change their faces, shapeshifting so that they appeared as an entirely new person.

Aside from Arya Stark, other known members of the Faceless Men were "Jaqen H'ghar", a Faceless Man who took the identity of a Lorathi criminal, and "The Waif", a Faceless Man who appeared as a young woman. The Waif was highly critical of Arya, claiming she would never become one of them…

Now it’s time for this week’s question: How do you think the Faceless Men will be involved with the outcome of the TV show, if at all? Let me know in the comments below.
