Star Wars: A Look at Senate Commandos
Stationed on Coruscant, Senate Commandos served to protect members of the Senate and other noteworthy politicians. The faction was made up of experienced security and law enforcement officers from all across Republic space, often coming from families who had previously served it. By default, Senate Commandos wore metallic blue armour, which was similar to phase I clone trooper armour. However, it had a different helmet design and an enlarged left shoulder pad. Commandos of a high rank usually displayed several white strips and patterns on their armour, as well as larger crests on their helmets. Before wielding DC-15 series blasters during the Clone Wars, weapons commonly used by the clones, the guard sported ceremonial blaster rifles. Although they were designated as “ceremonial”, they were quite accurate and powerful, capable of silencing long range targets. However, they grew to be hardly ever used by the Senate Guard in combat scenarios. Aside from combat, Commandos were often seen using shock sticks and force pikes as part of their duty in law enforcement and crowd control.
Notable members of the Senate Commandos were:
Faro Argyus – a captain who came from an honourable and loyal family only to be bribed by Count Dooku to betray his brothers and help free Republic prisoner Nute Gunray. However, not to be overshadowed for the missions’ success, Asajj Ventress assassinated the deserter.
Jayfon – another captain who served during the Clone Wars, who, alongside his squad, was unable to apprehend and defeat a team of bounty hunters outside the Republic Executive Building. Like the rest of his team, Jayfon was killed. At the hands of Cad Bane, the guard had his neck snapped.
Taggart – a captain who led some of his guard to the planet Mandalore, tasked with protecting a group of senators during a peace conference with the CIS. Unfortunately, in the New Mandalorian capital of Sundari, Taggart and his troops had to open fire on Separatist BX-series droid commandos, leading to several casualties on both sides.
And lastly, SG-1984 - who, like the other three, served during the Clone Wars. However, he only featured as part of the security detail for Supreme Chancellor Palpatine at the Festival of Light on Naboo.
