Fan Theory - Mace Windu was the CHOSEN ONE?!?
Anakin Skywalker was the Chosen One… Or was he?
No, he definitely was the Chosen One… But was he really?
C’mon, he had a ridiculously high Midi-Chlorian count and fulfilled the Chosen One prophecy by bringing balance to the Force… Yes, but maybe there was another…
In the Star Wars prequels, Mace Windu spent a lot of his time being sceptical and drawing dirty looks. However, he saved the combination of those two skills for one very special person, Anakin Skywalker. Why? Because he was the Chosen One. Again, why? Well, perhaps Windu thought he was actually the one destined to bring balance to the Force, not a mere slave-child from Tatooine. But first of all, let’s back up a little. At least in the Legends universe, Windu was described by Count Dooku as an "arrogant little Padawan." The Jedi was never shy to display his skill and talent, not to mention his sharp tongue. However, Windu knew how to control his feelings, which is why he became a Jedi Master incredibly quickly, and was appointed to the Jedi Council at only twenty-eight years old. Furthermore, Mace had a unique form of Force perception that revealed shatterpoints, allowing the Jedi to see how his actions would affect the future. All of these points display how powerful Windu was, as well as his unusual and prophecy-like rise through the Jedi ranks.
When Qui-Gon Jinn presented Skywalker to the Jedi Council, boasting about the youngster’s incredible potential in the Force, Windu refused to believe that the young slave could be the Chosen One, regardless of the overwhelming evidence. Was Mace just being a sceptic, did shatterpoints in the Force tell him otherwise, or was he unusually failing to mask his emotions? Well, in Revenge of the Sith, Windu still never trusted Skywalker, even after he told the Jedi about Supreme Chancellor Palpatine’s true identity. Despite being left behind while the big boys took care of big boy business, Skywalker arrived at the Chancellor’s suite just in time to witness Windu win a lightsaber duel against Palpatine. At that moment, Mace claimed "I'm going to end this once and for all!" But surely if Windu believed in the prophecy he would have simply stepped aside to let the Chosen One fulfil his destiny, right? Unless he truly didn’t believe Anakin was the Chosen One. Unfortunately, the Jedi was betrayed and killed before he could enact his “fate.”
When Anakin turned to the dark side, he clearly regretted the decision. Throughout his time as a Jedi, he always respected and only wanted to impress Windu. However, Mace’s jealousy twisted his perception of the former slave. Perhaps if Windu allowed Skywalker to join him in arresting Palpatine, where he could witness the merciless slaying of fellow Jedi Masters, he wouldn’t have joined the dark side. Instead, Anakin could only witness Windu’s attempt to steal his destiny, and so finally left behind his life as a Jedi. Even if Mace Windu wasn’t the Chosen One, you can’t deny he inadvertently caused the fulfilment of the prophecy. For example, just look at the similarity of the Palpatine electrocuting the good guy scenes in Revenge of the Sith and Return of the Jedi. It is quite possible that the line “he’s too dangerous to be kept alive” resonated in the mind of Skywalker…
I personally think there’s no denying that Anakin Skywalker was the Chosen One. However, I do somewhat believe that Mace Windu related himself to the prophecy. As a result, I will rate this theory a: 4/10. Maybe… Just maybe. Do you agree with my rating? What do you think about this theory? And what fan theory should I cover next?
