Star Wars: Where Are They Now? Orli Shoshan
Orli Shoshan was born and raised in Tel Aviv, Israel. However, after nearly two years a member of the Israeli Defense Forces, she grew a great passion for travelling, favouring India, Thailand and Australia in particular. Consequently, Orli moved to Sydney in her early twenties, where she began a successful modelling career. For years Shoshan enjoyed print work in magazines and catalogues, walking catwalks, appearing in television commercials, and presenting prizes in Wheel of Fortune – Australia. All of this hard work eventually landed her the role of Jedi Master Shaak Ti in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones. Even with the minor part, as a result of the hugely successful film series, Orli faced worldwide attention and exposure. So, did Star Wars mark the peak of Shoshan’s success, or did it launch her career to unimaginable heights? Well, let’s find out!
For the role of Shaak Ti in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, the casting director required someone with martial arts experience. As a result, given her military history and hand-to-hand combat skills, Orli was perfect for the role. Unfortunately, the Togrutan Jedi Master struggled for screen-time in the sci-fi flick. What’s more, both of her scenes in the sequel, Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, were ultimately dropped from the final cut. Maybe this was for the best, however, as both scenes marked the death of her character, firstly at the hands of General Grievous during the Battle of Coruscant, and then Darth Vader amidst Order 66. Shoshan’s final portrayal of Shaak Ti came a year later when she appeared in the UK fan film Order of the Sith: Downfall. Alongside fellow Star Wars alumni Jeremy Bulloch, Michael Sheard and David Prowse, Orli helped support Save the Children.
Following Star Wars, looking to further her modelling career, Shoshan moved to Japan. There, she expanded the “Orli” fashion brand. After travelling the world once more, the Israeli returned home, where she finished acting school and began a second fashion line for lingerie named “Mia Luce”. Currently, Orli resides in Chicago, Illinois, with her husband and two daughters. Despite taking a break from modelling to raise her children, Shoshan now works as a real estate agent, and owns the boutique home staging and interior design company “O Designs By Orli Shoshan”. As it stands, Orli loves her career path and looks forward to the future. Furthermore, as someone who likes to keep themselves busy, Shoshan plans to visit sci-fi conventions all over the world, where she will no doubt face many members of the public paying homage to her legendary character, Shaak Ti…
