Ups & Downs from Star Wars Rebels: “Visions and Voices”

Star Wars Rebels Season 3, Episode 11 is out! And it was amazing! There were call-backs to the Clone Wars, references to intriguing future instalments, and, most importantly, it returned to the Maul storyline. So, with that in mind, let’s look at the ups and downs from “Visions and Voices”.

As I just mentioned, this episode is critical to the overall story. That's right, we have returned to the Maul storyline, which is an up! We had Maul, the Bendu, and mention of the Jedi and Sith Holocrons. But that's not all. There was plenty of set up for future instalments, such as the appearance of Tatooine and Obi-Wan Kenobi! Are you hyped? You should be. The sheer tease of Kenobi and the “desert planet with two suns” is an up.

Aside from the important storyline and setup for episodes to come, there were plenty of references to the Clone Wars. I mean, how awesome was it to once more see Dathomir, even if it was a bit worse for wear? It was also interesting to see Maul harbour a defiled picture of Duchess Satine Kryze, and the Darksaber. Yes, one of the coolest lightsabers is back, and I'm very glad to see it.

Aside from the fact the Nightsisters were killed off a little too easily, due to time constraints, I guess, the only negative I have for the episode is its placement in the series. Don't get me wrong, “Visions and Voices” is incredibly important to the overall story, progressing many key plot points. However, its release feels a little late. It could have easily followed one of the early episodes in season 3. Instead, placed after many filler episodes, it doesn't feel as impactful as it should be. A lot of time has passed since we last saw Maul. The memories of his storyline aren't as fresh as they should be. This negative isn't so much to do with “Visions and Voices”, but it's a worthwhile negative to point out nonetheless.

As displayed by the four ups and one down, “Visions and Voices” was a really good episode. While it was aired later than what it maybe should have, it has grabbed everyone's attention. I for one can't wait for the Tatooine and Obi-Wan payoff. But what did you make of the episode? Do you agree with my points? Let me know in the comments below. Thanks for watching!
