Star Wars Lore – Commander Doom

Clad in his distinctive green and yellow armour, clone Commander Doom was not one to shy away from the action. However, he wasn't afraid to call for reinforcements, and was wise enough to retreat when need be. Furthermore, bred to be utterly loyal to the Galactic Republic, Doom followed commands to a fault, even when ordered to turn his blaster on the Jedi...

The Battle of Ringo Vinda

Bred and trained on the watery world of Kamino, where he adopted his morbid nickname, Commander “Doom” was destined to loyally serve the Grand Army of the Republic. More specifically, he was fated to aid Jedi Generals Tiplar and Tiplee throughout the Clone Wars. Doom's first notable participation of the conflict came in 19 BBY, when the Republic launched a large-scale campaign to capture a massive space station encircling Ringo Vinda. Joined by Anakin Skywalker's 501st Legion, which included the likes of “Fives” and “Tup”, the commander's company boarded the ring-shaped vessel. Despite the extra firepower, however, most of Doom's men were obliterated. But their luck changed after several more encounters with Admiral Trench's droid forces, when they captured a communications center.

Continuing forth with the assault, Tiplar and Doom fought side-by-side as they closed in on Trench's position. Victory looked inevitable until Tup entered a trance-like state. The clone trooper, without warning, shot Tiplar in the back of the skull, killing her instantly. Doom could only watch as the Jedi General he had sworn to protect dropped to the floor, an image he would never forget. The senseless act resulted in a loss of momentum for the Republic forces, something Skywalker fully realised as he ordered his men to fall back. As it turned out, Tup had acted on behalf of a faulty inhibitor chip. Such a device was built into the brain of every clone trooper, ensuring their compliance with Order 66. Consequently, while Doom deemed Tup's action to be nonsensical and downright awful, he was destined to gun down the Jedi he had so faithfully served only a matter of months later...

Now it's time for this week's question: given his lack of screen-time, would you like to see the character of Commander Doom expanded upon in the EU? Let me know in the comments below.
