Star Wars Lore – Waxer and Boil
They were two polar opposite clones. On one hand was the compassionate and empathetic Waxer, while on the other was the hard-edged and gruff Boil. Both men shared an inseparable bond, however, making them an effective pairing throughout the Clone Wars. Unfortunately, following the Battle of Umbara, Boil had to continue the fight without his trusty comrade...
Two of the Finest
As clones of the bounty hunter Jango Fett, the nicknamed “Waxer” and “Boil” served the Grand Army of the Republic throughout the Clone Wars. More specifically, they carried out direct orders from Commander Cody, as members of Ghost Company. The detachment of the 212th Attack Battalion were among the first wave of Republic forces to respond to the Techno Union's occupation of Ryloth, landing near the city of Nabat. Waxer and Boil, were selected by Jedi General Obi-Wan Kenobi to scout ahead. They found the city to be completely deserted, not a single Twi'lek in sight. That was until the recon team stumbled upon the young orphan Numa. Waxer immediately sympathised with the young Twi'lek and suggested they take her with them, though Boil couldn't disagree more, knowing Numa would slow their progress. However, the youngster proved to be extremely resourceful. In fact, after the trio were attack by a pair of predatory beasts released by the Separatists, Numa led the clones to safety through tunnels under her home. But her usefulness did not end there! When reunited with the rest of Ghost Company, Kenobi orchestrated an effort to rescue Twi'lek hostages, using Numa's knowledge of the passageways under Nabat to do so. As a result, whilst Cody and his men caused a diversion, Waxer, Boil, Kenobi and Numa successfully extracted the prisoners. The arrival of Jedi Master Mace Windu and his forces officially ended the Techno Union's subjugation of Ryloth. Unfortunately, it also brought an end to Waxer and Boil's brief but effective partnership with Numa.
Later in the war, donning ARF trooper armour, Waxer and Boil were dispatched to the conflict's origin, Geonosis. The Republic hoped to destroy the multiple droid factories there and capture Archduke Poggle the Lesser. To achieve such, Anakin Skywalker, Plo Koon and Obi-Wan led groups of clone troopers respectively into the heart of the Separatists’ forces. Waxer and Boil once more accompanied Kenobi and Cody's unit. However, having traversed through waves of enemy fire, the Jedi General's gunship was shot down over five kilometers from the rendezvous point. Both clones immediately raced through the ongoing firefight to reach the downed craft, in which Kenobi and fellow trooper Trapper lay injured. If not for Waxer and Boil, the survivors would never have made it to Commander Cody safely. Moreover, they played an integral part in the destruction of a shield generator and a droid factory.
The Loss of a Brother
In 21 BBY, the Expansion Region world of Umbara seceded from the Republic to align with the Separatists. However, the Republic weren't prepared to sit idly by while a key planet of theirs fell into enemy hands. This sparked a massive campaign to retake Umbara, in which Jedi Generals - such as Saesee Tiin, Pong Krell and Skywalker - led forces gradually into the capital city. Partway through the lengthy conflict, at the behest of Master Krell, Waxer led a platoon of 212th men in thwarting an Umbaran ruse. Their enemy were said to have donned clone trooper armour to surprise attack the Republic forces. Unfortunately, this was completely untrue. In fact, the “disguised” soldiers were just regular clones. Both platoons only realised the horrific truth when it was already too late. The surviving troopers were mortified to have gunned down their brothers, but none felt the pain more than Waxer. What's more, the compassionate clone himself was fatally wounded during the skirmish. He passed away with regret in his heart.
Despite the capture of Pong Krell and the retaking of Umbara, the death of Waxer was hard to accept. Boil, as his closest friend, found it particularly hard to move on from Waxer's passing. The clone did try his best to. For example, he later participated in the liberation of the Togrutan colony world of Kiros. However, taking on Separatist forces was simply never going to feel the same without Waxer by his side...
