Rose and Paige Tico – Everything You Need To Know (The Last Jedi)

Portrayed by Kelly Marie Tran and Veronica Ngo respectively, sisters Rose and Paige Tico look to decimate the First Order – or at least help out the Resistance – this upcoming December. But who exactly are each of these brand new characters? Well, let's find out! Here is everything you need to know about both Rose and Paige Tico heading into The Last Jedi.

(Warning: Minor Spoilers Ahead)

Sister of fellow Resistance member and gunner Paige Tico, Rose is set to play a massive part in the onset of Star Wars: Episode VIII. In fact, both she and the returning Finn are said to become entangled on a mission to the casino metropolis of Canto Bight. Think Las Vegas, only in the Star Wars universe... and on a desert planet named Cantonica. Anyway, Rose is somewhat enamoured and starstruck by Finn, given his heroic participation in the Battle of Starkiller Base. Yet the former stormtrooper, while appreciative of her admiration, simply longs for a life away from both the Resistance and the First Order – a life removed from the horrors of war. But through the picture Rose paints of himself, Finn tries his absolute best to become the badass soldier everyone knows he can be.

With that being said, Rose must be a motivational and inspiring character – right? Well, no – not exactly. I mean, from the outside looking in, she's nothing more than a background player, standing in the shadow of her dynamic and daring sister. But behind her somewhat rugged exterior lies not only a dedicated mechanic, but a loyal soldier who has hated the First Order for as long as she can remember. Not only that, but in the words of Kelly Marie Tran herself, Rose is:

“Sort of always on a mission. She is a very practical person, she's very pragmatic. The journey that she and Finn go seems pretty impossible, you can tell in this moment that she's very much aware of the dangers that they are about to face, but she's also logically in her mind problem-solving on the way. She knows exactly, probably, how many things can go wrong in a situation."

Tran has also hinted at the role and invaluable nature of Rose's mysterious necklace:

"[The necklace] is definitely something that is significant to Rose's backstory. It is an object that she kind of has throughout the film and it is representative of more than the object itself to her. So, yeah, that's all I can say. It has significance that is, to me, something that means more than just what the object itself is."

Thankfully, the other pieces of Rose's clothing are a tad easier to decipher. For one, the lettering on her jumpsuit – when translated from Aurebesh to English – reads: “Ground Logistics Division”, or “GLD” for short. But what exactly is the GLD? Well, for starters, it was founded following Leia Organa's departure from the Galactic Senate. It also serves as one of the more “not so glamorous” units within the Resistance. By this I mean, for every Luke Skywalker or Poe Dameron, there are hundreds of ground workers who work behind the scenes to ensure their starfighters are fuelled, cleaned and serviced. So not only is a maintenance worker with an eye for killing stormtroopers unique in and of itself, but Rose is the first of hopefully many characters who are normal. She isn't some almighty, powerful being who can manipulate the Force. Instead, she is someone not too dissimilar from you or I, proving that just about anyone can become a hero.
