Star Wars Characters We HATED But Then Grew to LOVE...

Updated: Mar 11, 2019

Love and hate, two equally powerful words for sure, will forever be interlinked. But despite their glaring polarity, one can often turn into the other given enough time and, in this case, incredible writing! With that in mind, here are three Star Wars characters we initially hated but then grew to love...

Asajj Ventress Unlike the other two characters on today's list, Asajj Ventress makes the cut due to the once-evil nature of her character. It was under the tutelage of Count Dooku, where she proved herself a constant thorn in the sides of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker, that we grew to dislike her. We simply could not wait for the Sith assassin to have her comeuppance. But once she became a bounty hunter, helping Ahsoka Tano evade the Jedi Order and falling in love with Quinlan Vos, Ventress quickly turned the heads of many a Star Wars fan. Her traumatic childhood also led us to sympathise with a character we once hated. Well played, Dave Filoni. Well played!

Anakin Skywalker “I don't like sand. It's coarse, and rough, and irritating, and it gets everywhere” – these very words, combined with much more clunky dialogue and a whiny, brat-like attitude, turned many against Hayden Christensen and the character he portrayed. However, in this day in age, the Star Wars prequels appear to receive more love than they do hate. And so, Anakin Skywalker has transformed from a much-criticised figure into a fan favourite character. We're still not massive fans of the aforementioned sand line, though, it has to be said...

Ahsoka Tano It's difficult to imagine anyone disliking Ahsoka Tano. Whether it be in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, or her standalone novel, this feisty teenager-turned-wise and powerful Force-user has garnered droves and droves of loyal fans. Yet her early appearances in the aforementioned Clone Wars TV show left much to be desired. Much of the older and more hardcore fanbase, for example, found the Padawan of Anakin Skywalker too child-like, disobedient, and downright annoying. If it weren't for her maturity, one which coincided with the series in which she debuted, Ahsoka may have never became one of the saga's most beloved female characters. It's not worth thinking about, really!

So there are three Star Wars characters we initially hated but then grew to love! Were there any that I missed? Perhaps you think I should have added Darth Vader. Or What about the Ewoks, I hear one of you scream! Well, let me know in the comments below!
