Zorii Bliss | Everything We Know So Far

Updated: Dec 10, 2019

Captain Phasma is probably dead. Even if she somehow survived a massive fall through fire and... space, the bloom is well and truly off the rose. Not that Rose. This leaves a massive, Gwendoline Christie-sized hole in the badass masked character department. To fix this, we have Zorii Bliss. Like all masked characters, though, it's not just her face that's hidden. Her Motivations and true intentions are about as unreadable as my current handwriting. And trust me, that s***'s bad! Anyway, if you want to learn more about her as we edge closer to The Rise of Skywalker, you've come to the right place! Here is Everything We Know So Far about Zorii Bliss.

Number 03. She's a Spice Runner

Hailing from the frigid mountainous planet Kijimi, another wretched hive of scum and villainy, Zorii Bliss happens to be a criminal. But not just any criminal! She's the leader of some drug smugglers called the Spice Runners of Kijimi. Very apt title, right? She operates the gang from the planet's Thieves' Quarter, meaning she's an upstanding citizen with an unquestionable moral compass. Yeah, right! She does have some powerful friends in some rather high places, though. The main one being...

Number 02. She's Friends With Poe

As in ace pilot Poe Dameron. As in the Resistance Commander. As in the dude who probably shouldn't be friends with a criminal! Yet here we are. It's unclear how they became friends or why. It's not like we have a comic or novel just kicking about. But thanks to an interview with Variety, actress Keri Russell has revealed more about her character's history with the cocky flyboy:

She has a little bit of a checkered past and maybe some questionable morals, but she’s really an old friend of Poe’s. I think the entrance of Zorii is there to describe more of who he was, y’know, in a very intimate way and a familiar way, and the friends are sort of like, ‘What do you mean, you know him?’”

Clearly, Zorii isn't here to just make up the numbers. Her friendship with Poe has meaning both to his character and the plot of Episode IX. Sure, she might only appear for a tiny chunk of the movie, but I don't think she's the next Captain Phasma – not by a long shot. Whether or not she'll turn against her old friend, well, that's a different story...

Number 01. She's Totally Neutral... Kinda

If DJ from The Last Jedi is anything to go by, criminals should not be trusted. Their neutrality in the First Order-Resistance conflict means they will switch side at any given moment. So while Zorii maintains a neutral stance, her motives are, again, as unclear as my awful handwriting. I really need to sort that out! Anyway, she might well turn against her old pal Poe if the price is right. She might even turn against him for the sheer banter. But if we're going by the poster side of things, it's looking not too shabby for the good guys. Very strategically placed, on the left-hand side, far removed from the likes of Kylo Ren and General Hux is Zorii Bliss. Could this be a red herring? Possibly. Might this also be a subtle sign for things to come? Absolutely. I think she'll remain neutral to a point, but if she's going to sway one way or another, expect it to be with the Resistance. Sorry, First Order. She's just not that into you!

So there is Everything We Know So Far about Zorii Bliss. Do you think she'll wind up betraying Poe like I theorised? What are your thoughts on her sleek little costume? Let me know in the comments below.
